#NationalWalkOutDay

TH
MARKED EXACTLY ONE MONTH since
the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. It is
always commonplace for us to offer our thoughts
and prayers after an awful tragedy. But often, this does not
create a dialogue in which the extent of the issue at hand
can fully be discussed. We need more than thoughts and
prayers. That is why we, the students, find it crucial to take
the opportunity that has been presented and attempt to
bring about much needed change. We understand that our
walkout in memory of the seventeen Parkland victims will not
immediately enact stricter gun control laws or change gun
culture in this country. However, we hope that those among
us will find their voice and recognize its power. Seventeen
people were forcefully silenced and now remain voiceless.
It is our responsibility to keep their voices alive. Instead of
waiting for others to lead the way for us, we will be at the front
lines. We refuse to be ignored. May the seventeen minutes
observed on March 14
th
in remembrance of the MSD victims
empower others to fight for what they believe is just.
Instead of waiting for others to lead
the way for us, we will be at the front
lines. We refuse to be ignored."
