While at Harvard, she was able to speak directly with people suffering from the disease and learned how disappointed they were with the treatments available. In an effort to discover another way to treat mental illness, she visited a premier taste lab headed by Dr. Charles Zuker at Columbia University to learn more about the intersection between food and neuroscience. While continuing her basic science research, she received her master's at Columbia's Institute of Human Nutrition where she worked with Dr. Drew Ramsey to understand how dietary interventions for people suffering from anxiety and depression helped with their treatment. After completing her thesis, Ariel wanted to make this food-based form of mental health care more accessible to those in need; so, she developed Elated, a catering company that brings "brain- boosting, good-mood-making meals" to your door. In February we opened a third restaurant, La Rue Bistronomie, and I am forming a hospitality group that will run all three restaurants, and hopefully more to come in the future. My family owns all three restaurants and runs the business side along with our sole partner and locally known restauranteur, Maurizio Farinelli, who creates the menu and runs the kitchen. Strada in the Grove combines northern Italian cuisine with over 100 different wine selections including some of the best boutique wines exclusive to our shelves and from the best wine regions of the world. Farinelli 1937 is an authentic Italian pizzeria that compliments the old world flavors and traditions of Strada in the Grove and increases the temperature to 800°F in our two custom-made, copper-coated, wood-burning ovens. La Rue Bistronomie brings an upper-hand brasserie style French restaurant to Coconut Grove. Our menu will incorporate some of the classic dishes that people want to see in a French brasserie while also including a lighter and fresher take on French cuisine that comes from the south of France and an extensive wine list."
