A Theatrical Year
By Ashley Valentin
This year the PTS Theatre Department truly shined
with it's adaptation of two musicals and a drama.
The first performance of the year, Dolly Parton's musical comedy
9 to 5, took place in October at Pinecrest Gardens. The show was a
funny and thoughtful look into the harsh environments women in
the workplace dealt with in the 1980's. It revolves around a group
of women who are tired of the treatment of their sexist boss and
decide to take control of the company and run it how they see fit.
The second performance took place right here on the PTS campus
in April. The Theatre Department constructed a tented stage outside
of the MDR in April to host the hilarious musical, You're A Good Man,
Charlie Brown. It was an incredibly moving story about friendship,
love, and growing up.
And in May, the Theatre Department rounded out the year with an
emotional look into tragedy in The Women of Lockerbie, a play that
focused on the families of the victims who died in the 1988 Pan
Am Flight 103 terrorist attack. The play was a powerful tale of loss,
love, and learning to heal after unimaginable tragedy strikes. All
in attendance were moved by both the story and the passionate
performances given by the students.
The award-winning PTS Theatre Department brought laughs, tears,
and joy through their moving pieces this year, and we look forward
to what's in store next year.
