– THE RECLAMATION PROJECT – ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2018, Dr. Llinás and his students gathered in Pinecrest Gardens to meet with renowned artist Xavier Cortada. Cortada's art centers around eco-friendliness and restoring the environment. For this project, he helped students "plant" mangrove seeds in cups full of water and hang them up on a wall. This setup is an art installation for Pinecrest Gardens guests to see. The mangrove seeds began to slowly grow on the wall, with the end goal being mangrove restoration by planting the trees back into nature. With a large amount of Miami's mangroves having been destroyed due to construction and population growth, this project helps to restore our ecosystem and promote a healthy environment.
