Hurricane Dorian: Help Is On the Way! WHEN H U R RICA NE DORI A N, an extremely powerful, slow-moving Category 5 hurricane, destroyed part of the Bahamas in fall 2019, many families in Grand Bahama Island and Abaco were left without their homes. Knowing this, Palmer Trinity School students, families, faculty, and staff banded together to help our neighbor to the south. Partnering with Christ Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida, Palmer Trinity School raised over $11,500 and collected much-needed items like diapers, baby items, canned foods, flashlights, batteries, first-aid equipment, paper products, garbage bags, household cleaners, tarps, sunscreen, water, and more. All funds and essential items were sent directly to the residents of the Bahamas to help them rebuild their lives. We Love Our Volunteers ON M AY 21, Palmer Trinity School hosted a "virtual" Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast for over 120 parents and friends of the School's community. Volunteers play a very important role at Palmer Trinity School and we are blessed to have so many parents, grandparents, Alumni, and Board of Trustees who serve our community. The circumstances of distance learning and the challenges we faced as a community did not stop Palmer Trinity School from coming together, albeit online, to honor the good work of our Palmer Trinity Parents Association (PTPA) and all the volunteers who dedicated themselves to providing meaningful programs, inspirational speakers and the most magnificent events, festivals, and parties. We would like to give special thanks to the PTPA Board—Lisa Mishurda, Helina Dodd, Michelle Beauchamp Arias, Laura Marandino, Kelli Powell, and Kim Vinas—for all of their hard work throughout the year. Head of School, Patrick Roberts; Director of Development, Juan Gomez; Director of Parent Relations, Denise Gallardo; and PTPA President, Lisa Mishurda, were among the speakers who recognized the service of the volunteers. Additionally, several notable individuals were honored for their extraordinary work. Past PTPA President, Monique Befeler, recognized the outstanding leadership of outgoing President, Lisa Mishurda. Claudia Rey and Silvia Messmacher received the Volunteer of the Year Award for their years of service co-chairing the International Festival. The Spotlight Award was given to Suzanne Calleja, Associate Head for Communications and Strategic Partnership, for her work to support the PTPA beyond what's asked of her.
