They are happily living in Charlotte, NC. '77 Class Agent Craig Zimmett '78 Class Agent Thomas Magenheimer '79 Class Agent Needed '80 Class Agent Laurence Moser Dawn (Hoyt) Kidd, PhD '80, began working as an adjunct instructor at Lamar University, in the Department of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, in fall 2020. She continues her regular position as an 8 th grade mathematics teacher at Texas School for the Deaf, where she has now worked for 30 years. Additionally, she and her husband, Kelly, became grandparents for the first time when their son, Colton, and his wife, Olivia, welcomed Cassidy James Kidd to the family in January 2020. '81 Class Agent Lee Sterling '82 Class Agent Hart Baur '83 Class Agent Needed '84 Class Agent Suyain George '85 Class Agent Beth (Brockway) Serrate Michael Higgs '85 graduated from American International College, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and has worked up and down the east coast in multiple roles for commercial, military and government organizations. Here in South Florida, he has worked for Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. He currently resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife of over 16 years, Jennafer, who is vice president of a national advertising firm in Broward County. After nearly 30 years working in corporate IT engineering, management and consulting, he has since retired and has started a real estate investing business. Together with his wife, they also invested in Tutor Doctor, an in-home/online tutoring service that offers support to students with extra help, test prep, A/B Improvement and homeschooling needs. Before the pandemic, they enjoyed traveling extensively, having just experienced a Baltic Sea cruise in 2019 and seeing countries like Russia, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and others. Before that, they traveled extensively through Europe and started exploring South America with a trip to Peru to see Machu Picchu and upcoming trips to the Galapagos and a South American cruise around Cape Horn. Their travel bucket list is to set foot on every continent, with five of seven already complete. In his spare time, Michael assists The Church By The Sea, in Fort Lauderdale, with its business and technology needs, volunteers for local dog rescue groups, enjoys day trading and works with state and local political groups. He continues to have the great love of automobiles he had when he attended Palmer, having driven over 1.1 million miles in his lifetime so far. Betty (Matz) Gelsky '85 writes, "I am blissfully married to my husband, Brad, and we are the proud parents of our nine dear children. I have appeared on the Florida Love Show several times as a relationship and love expert. I serve as a dating coach for an online dating website. For over 25 years, I participated in the Adventures in Intimacy weekend workshops for couples. My private practice is in Miami Shores, but I offer virtual and teletherapy as well."
