Melanie (Metal) Lander '09 accepted a position as Community Planning and Design Extension Specialist for the Hawaii Sea Grant College Program at the University of Hawaii. Melanie's work focuses on the urban-environmental interface in coastal areas. She specializes in mitigating present day issues caused by yesterday's decisions, like stream channelization, development on the shoreline and within floodplains, wetland and native species loss, wastewater management and urban sprawl. Melanie is interested in how the restoration of ecosystems in urban areas can be used to adapt to global climate change and improve the health of communities. Her work highlights the importance of considering place in policy making, and prioritizes the use of low-impact development to protect and restore ecosystem services from land to sea. Previously, Melanie worked as a project analyst for the Hawai'i Office of Planning Coastal Zone Management Program, a Peter J. Rappa Sustainable Coastal Development Fellow with Hawai'i Sea Grant and a wetland ecologist in South Florida. Melanie earned her bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Florida, and her Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from Georgia Tech. Natalie Matallana '09 got engaged to her long time boyfriend, Alex Hart, and has started her own marketing agency. They are living in New Orleans. Emily (Tarbe) DaGrosa '09 & Aleck DaGrosa '09 welcomed their first baby boy, Aleck John DaGrosa Jr., on September 21, 2020. '10 Class Agents Camila Aime Douglas Rothfeldt Brooke Sonenreich '10 is living in Atlanta, GA, where she is editor-in-chief at a publishing company called Oz. Daniela Agurcia '10 started her own jewelry line, Loulou La Mar. When she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Daniela had to adjust her lifestyle by focusing on her diet, well-being and overall stress control. Designing jewelry is a therapeutic and creative release for her, and 5% of her profits are donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Christina Ludovici '10 got engaged to Dogan Dinlecener after being together for over two years. They look forward to celebrating with their friends and family after the pandemic. Briana Henry '10 married Kris Bower in the summer of 2020. When their original wedding was cancelled due to COVID-19, they had a perfect, fairytale, backyard wedding with their closest friends and family. Briana is an actress in Los Angeles who currently plays Jordan Ashford in General Hospital, and Kris is a music composer. '11 Class Agents Katherine Difede Matthew MacNair Matias Faillace Marcel Apple '11 graduated from the American University Washington College of Law in May. He and his fiancé, Kristina Lauria, recently bought a home in Alexandria, VA, and will be getting married in Coconut Grove next spring. Alexa Cajiga '11 is currently living in Denver, Colorado. She is Customer Success Manager at wix.com, and is a luxury travel broker for The Luxe Collective, an ultra- luxury travel brokerage. In the beginning of the pandemic, she started to focus more on her photography and launched an online print shop: alexacajiga.com. Katie DiFede '11 has been sewing from the age of 10. While making her own Halloween costumes and gifting personalized items to her family and friends has always been a hobby for her, she branded it into her own business in 2020. The brand, Upskale Threads, which incorporates her initials "KRD," gives local and global customers the opportunity to bring their own customizations to life. Whether it be a logo for their business or matching t-shirts for the annual family trip, Katie works closely with her clients to provide custom pieces for any occasion. She has been invited to pop-up events all over South Florida, where she customizes pieces on site and offers an immediate turnaround so customers can witness the creative process from start to finish.
