A P O E M W I T H N O T H O U G H T W R I T T EN B Y EMR Y W IL L I A M S ' 2 8 Poetry is full of meaning and laughter But what if it was made by computers Would there be meaning? Or just auto generated banter Pixels made to act like Humans But no modern tool can create a Human's message No freedom, joy, and meaning Is made by something with no feelings Yes, computers are smart But I believe you have to have a heart to be able to create your own art Z E R O T O A C R O W W R I T T EN B Y I S A B EL PA P P ' 2 4 Today I learned that crows understand the concept of zero. They know lack of. They know longing. But what has a crow to lose? The trinkets they clutch in their talons, seeing the stars and dropping the pennies that looked just like it? The water at the base of bird-baths, waving away sparrows from what they want until their beaks hit the dry stone? Each other, mid flight and sudden, bird hearts knowing that their bird loves are gone leaving bird minds desperate for the space they aren't filling? Maybe it was just in them. No one taught a spider to weave, nor a beaver to build. Maybe some creatures are just born with loss in their bones. Monkeys, men, bees, crows. But only we gave it a name. Only we put it on the mantel. 11
