contracts. He represents many clients from various corners of the entertainment industry, from R&B/pop superstar Janet Jackson to the Hallmark Channel, as well as many indie artists, producers, songwriters, labels and music publishers. By far, Kamal's most well-known client is Ms. Jackson, who was referred to him by another client in 2018, and he has represented both her and her brother/ manager Randy Jackson ever since. Signing Janet as a client was "a full circle moment" says Kamal, since he has been a huge fan of hers since his teenage years. Harnessing his knowledge and experience in the music industry, Kamal authored the book, The Straightforward Guide to the Music Biz, in 2020. He was motivated to publish the book after realizing that there is a strong need among both music professionals and amateurs alike for a breakdown of the industry in layman's terms. Hundreds of his music clients would ask him the same questions over and over and now all of those answers can be found in his book. Kamal additionally shares his vast experience and knowledge as an adjunct law professor at Southwestern Law School, where he has taught a course on music publishing. Kamal strongly believes that it's important to "pay it forward" and mentor students who hope to enter the music industry since he has always appreciated the guidance and advice given to him by established industry professionals over the years. In addition to his career as an attorney, Kamal is also an avid screenwriter. Producing a web series for his brother's band in 2007 reignited his interest in screenwriting. In 2015, Kamal decided to write and produce a comedy-horror feature film titled "The Midnight Man," which was released by ITN Films in 2017. The film was also screened at three indie film festivals and won an award for "Best Chiller-Thriller." Since that time, Kamal has co-written two other screenplays, which are currently being shopped by producers. Kamal's advice to anyone interested in the entertainment industry is very straightforward: "Get out there and start trying things. Entertainment is a very entrepreneurial business, so you need to be willing to take risks and be able to spot opportunities. You're going to fail sometimes, but that's okay – the path to success is rarely a straight line." 61
