WHAT DO YOU CREATE AND WHY? I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I wrote my first book in fourth grade and published it in fifth grade. I wrote it during lockdown; I had a lot of time since everything was virtual. I was already interested in writing, but the pandemic was a sign to do more. You're never too young to write a book, no matter what others tell you. I already have the second and third book in the series written, the second is in the editing phase. HOW HAS PTS HELPED YOU GROW CREATIVELY? I love the theatre program at PTS! I've won top honors for my solo and superior in states. I also sing and have performed at different school functions. I was a reporter in CHICAGO and do shows outside of school: Miami Conservatory of Music, the theatre at Miracle Mile, and will be performing at Area Stage. I also collaborated with another student to do artwork for the book and characters. The cover art for the second book is by MIL A DUR S O ' 2 8. IN WHAT WAYS HAS YOUR FAMILY SUPPORTED YOU IN YOUR CREATIVITY? My protagonist, Naomi, was inspired by my sister, S A R A R A MO S ' 2 2 — how brave she is and how kind she is. Sara is really talented; she wrote a poetry book with her own sketches. My family was my accountability in the writing process. I would write a chapter a day and I would read it to them at dinner. They would listen and it was the best feeling in the world. They would tell me what they liked or didn't like. It was awesome because writers a lot of times get engulfed in their little world and no one else knows about [their writing], so it was really great for me to have someone supporting me every step of the way. My grandma who was a philosophy professor in Colombia–very ahead of her time--taught me to appreciate books and engrained my love for reading at a time I didn't like it. I love having philosophical conversations with her even if I don't understand it.
