THE PATH TO SUCCES S IS R ARELY A STR AIGHT LINE Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Kamal Moo moved to Miami with his family when he was three years old. He began attending Palmer Trinity School in the 7 th grade and graduated in 1998. While at Palmer Trinity School, Kamal always knew that he wanted to be part of the music industry, particularly as a record producer. He developed a passion for music production at an early age and even built a home recording studio in his parent's spare bedroom, where he would spend many hours making music, sometimes to the annoyance of his family members. In addition to music, Kamal considers himself an avid cinephile and even penned a few screenplays as a teenager. His decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams of working in entertainment is credited to Adrianna Truby, Kamal's college counselor, who suggested that he apply to the University of Southern California. Kamal says, "This was back in the days before the internet was readily available, so I didn't even know USC existed. But I was very grateful that Mrs. Truby introduced me to it because I probably never would have applied otherwise." Months after graduating from Palmer Trinity School, Kamal moved across the country. While a move like this may be nerve-racking for some teenagers, Kamal says he knew it was the right choice and he "never looked back." Kamal's move to California certainly paid off. He earned his B.S. in Music Industry from USC in 2002 and his J.D. from Southwestern Law School in 2005. He was then admitted to The State Bar of California in 2006. In 2007, after passing the bar and prior to starting his law practice, Kamal's first job in the entertainment industry was managing his brother N A BIL MOO ' S ' 0 7 rock band, "I Set My Friends On Fire." During his time with the band, Kamal accompanied them on tours and oversaw their deal with Epitaph Records. Kamal eventually launched his own law practice in 2010 and today is a successful music and entertainment lawyer based in Southern California. Over the course of his career, he has negotiated small indie deals and large multimillion dollar agreements, and everything in between. These deals include recording and music publishing contracts, producer and songwriter agreements, and film production C L A S S O F 1 9 9 8 K A M A L M O O 60 PALMERTRINITY.ORG A L U M N I N E W S A L U M N I P R O F I L E
