1980S DAWN HOYT KIDD '80 retired two years ago after teaching mathematics for over 30 years at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, TX. She is currently an adjunct instructor for Lamar University in the Deaf Studies/Deaf Education department and is involved in various projects for the DeafTEC Resource Center at the Rochester Institute of Technology/ National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Additionally, she works part-time as an interpreter in American Sign Language. Dawn, married for 36 years, has two children and two grandchildren. She also engages in occasional service projects with the Sierra Club in various national parks. BETTY MATZ GELSKY '85 and Brad Gelsky joyfully announced the arrival of their first grandchild on January 15, 2024, in Aventura, FL. The baby boy, born to the oldest of their 9 children, brought immense happiness to the family. Two years ago, the couple relocated to Dallas, Texas, where Betty continues her psychotherapy practice, now licensed in the state. Despite the distance, they make frequent trips to South Florida to spend time with their children, family, and friends. Recently, they embarked on an unforgettable journey to Iceland with their loved ones, creating memories together. 1990S CHRISTINE 'CHRISTY' KINCHELOE '90 won the District Teacher of the Year award at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind for the second time. She will be competing against 80 District Teachers of the Year for the title of State Teacher of the Year. Her daughter is graduating from Lander University with a BSN in nursing, while her son will be starting Clemson University's engineering program this fall.
