Within the Visual Arts Department,
an ethos of nurturing and cultivation
abounds, dedicated to unlocking the
boundless potential within each student.
Our classrooms stand as vibrant forums,
where the freedom to explore ideas,
experiment with new materials, and
express oneself through the medium of
art can be found.
Recently, we've adopted a guiding
theme: "Make Art with your Head, Hand
& Heart." This mantra invites students
to merge conceptual depth, technical
proficiency, and emotional resonance
within each piece they make. Students
are encouraged to develop their skills
within a given medium, but also to infuse
meaningful content and sentiments
within their work.
These efforts allow students to create
unique and engaging pieces and to
connect with the school community in
diverse and imaginative ways:
• This year, the 3D Art class worked
in collaboration with the drama
program's production of "Into
the Woods", creating several
manipulatable cow puppets to
perform as Milky White on stage
(page 11).
• Students in Studio Art continued
to spread art throughout campus
with their large-scale recreations of
famous paintings, as seen in the MDR.
The most recent piece created was
Tamara in a Green Bugatti by Tamara
de Lempicka for Ms. McCabe's college
counseling office.
• Additionally, the Digital Art class
created Keith Haring-style posters
displaying the school's motto of "Lead
with Love" to hang around campus.
• And the IB seniors hosted their
capstone event, a Senior Exhibition,
in the PDR to great success.
Whether it's through drawing,
painting, sculpture, or digital art,
our goal remains the same: to
empower students to realize their
creative potential and become adept
visual communicators. In the Visual Arts
Department, the canvas is infinite, and
the creative potential of each student
is just a brushstroke away.
