Eighth grader Nicole Font did not choose to take Mrs. Wood's Digital Art class, but she has ended up loving it. She enjoys that the class is after lunch and says "it's a great chance for me to wind down." Newly armed with digital imaging skills, her mother has asked her to design the family's holiday card this year. Her piece shown here is based on David Hockney's photo collages. Stemming from Cubism, his photos attempted to show multiple perspectives simultaneously. In sixth grade, the students' schedules rotate every 6 weeks so that they may sample some of the electives that we offer. They take Latin, Chinese, French, Spanish, Computers, and Art. 6th grader Emily Franklin, shown here with her first pinch pot, says "I liked making this pot because I got to play with clay. My one piece of advice would be to wear a smock! Other than that, I think that art is easy because there isn't a right or wrong way to do things. You can do it any way you want to." Whether they are stopping in for a semester or they have begun to foster a lifelong love of art, our students are doing something that no one can take away from them. They are creating beauty in their everyday lives, and we, as viewers, are lucky enough to witness their creations. If you missed our open house, please look for more student artwork at our Spring Student Show in April. 23
