O R G CL A S S NOT E S Tracy Wilk '06, Executive Pastry Chef at David Burke Kitchen Alexandre Lang-Willar '08 and Romaine Lang-Willar '08 and family Ariel Moger '08 (second from right) and her team at Oceana Ian McLaughlin '06 livestreaming as @_Anthropoid Lene Staertzel '06 and her husband Travis with their wedding party Rafael Reyes '06 and his wife Rachel welcome baby Andrew with little or no exposure to the subject. At around that time, Twitter rolled out their video live-streaming app, Periscope, which enables real-time interaction between streamers and viewers. One day, I decided to start an informal live-stream with the title of "I research the brain, ask me anything," and within just a few minutes, I saw over 300 people join in simultaneously, ultimately amounting to several thousand total viewers. Surprised at the reception, I decided to continue this form of communication, adding a podcast called Wired to be Weird, live tours of laboratory spaces, neuroanatomy, fluorescence microscopy, and I'm planning several VR-style 360 degree live video streams in unique collections of biological specimens in the near future. Recently, I became a finalist for a Shorty Award for Periscoper of the Year, an awards ceremony focused on highlighting online content in the fashion of the Academy Awards. While I won't know if I've won until the evening of the ceremony, it's encouraging to see science-focused content acknowledged by an event like this, and so I intend to continue this effort of finding new and more effective ways to bring people closer to science during and after the rest of my time in graduate school." RAFAEL REYES writes, "2016 was a very rewarding year for my family. Rachel was able to fully dedicate her time to becoming a yoga teacher and gives classes at Corpo Yoga in Dadeland Station. In my 5 th year with the Colorado Rockies, I signed Colton Welker (Stoneman Douglas HS) in the 4 th round and Willie Abreu (University of Miami) in the 6 th round of the June MLB draft. I was also able to start my MBA in August and finished my first half marathon in November. In January, Rachel and I welcomed our first baby. Andrew has been an absolute blessing and a great reward to an active 2016." TRACY WILK was recently named as one of FSR magazine's '40 Restaurant Stars On the Rise.' She writes, "I'm currently working in New York City and Aspen as an Executive Pastry Chef for Craveable Hospitality Group. If any PTS alumni are in the area, please stop by, I would love to say hi!" 2007 CLASS AGENT Will Morrison willmorrisonfl@gmail.com SEBASTIAN GUERRA- MONDRAGON writes, "After graduating from Purdue with a Masters in Engineering in 2014, I went on to work at a tech startup called Sincerely as the founder's right-hand man. Two years after I joined Sincerely the founder left and I co-led the company with the Head of Engineering. At the same time I was moonlighting as an entrepreneur and launched a company called Tove.co. Roughly seven months later I am now at a high growth drone software startup company called DroneDeploy as one of the founding members of the business development team." ASHLEY (PEMSLER) CARA writes, "I got married in 2014 and lived in Madison, Wisconsin for a couple years until November 2015 when my husband and I moved back to Rochester, New York where we had gone to undergraduate school and I had completed my masters. I currently work as a mental health counselor at a behavioral health clinic in the city. I'm approaching licensure in September with plans to open up a private practice around that time." LUIS GUILLERMO VILLANUEVA is the Chief Operating Officer at SOMOS Next, based in Miami. He writes, "SOMOS Next is focused on the commercialization and distribution of paid audiovisual content mainly in Spanish in the online environment. Its brands include FlixLatino (movies, series, and other fiction formats) and Pinguinitos (animation for children 0-5 years of age)."
