Emily + Austin: A PTS Love Story HIGH SCHOOL SWEE THE A RTS Emily (Kalbac) Cannon '16 and Austin Cannon '16 began their love story at Palmer Trinity School in the summer of 2009 and recently returned to campus to say "I do" in the newly built, state-of-the- art Trinity Chapel. The newlyweds first met at a PTS ice cream social in the weeks prior to their first day of sixth grade. Often partnered together in Judi Jennings' sixth and seventh-grade P.E. classes, the two spent much time together and quickly became close friends. At the 2012 PTS homecoming football game, following their crowning as 9 th grade homecoming prince and princess, Austin asked Emily to be his girlfriend. Throughout their years at Palmer Trinity, the pair supported one another in their academic, extracurricular, and athletic pursuits. Emily was often spotted cheering for Austin on the sidelines of his lacrosse and football games, where he led both teams as team captain, and Austin was often spotted supporting Emily at her Tri-M music honor society coffee house events and Climb-4-Colitis fundraisers. Both Emily and Austin participated in the school's music program for all seven years of attendance—Emily in the orchestra as a violinist and Austin in the band as a trumpet and baritone player. During their time at PTS, the two shared many memories, including canoeing through the Everglades on their Outward Bound trip, traveling to Atlanta and Orlando with the Palmer Trinity music program, attending Marlins games with Ms. Vanegas's advisory, and being announced as homecoming king and queen during their senior year. After graduating from high school, Emily attended the University of Miami, where she studied health sciences, chemistry, public health, and psychology, and Austin attended Florida International University, where he studied business management and finance. Austin currently works as the Chief Administrative Officer for The Miami Sportscenter, an 820,000 square-foot, indoor, multi-use sports complex, being built in Doral. Starting in the fall of 2021, Emily will be attending medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she hopes to continue conducting basic science and clinical research and to become more heavily involved with health policy. Together, the two hope to improve the health and wellness of those in Miami-Dade County and beyond, and to use their time and resources to advocate for the most vulnerable and disenfranchised in our community.
