Once the school year began, I told my advisor that I needed to switch out of
the classes, but a voice in my head told me to stick with it and give it a chance.
So I did.
The semester started and I tried to put my best foot forward, but I still
struggled to connect with media or journalism… until it was my turn to
take photos. My connection with the camera was immediate. My pictures
weren't very good and I had a lot to learn, but I loved every second of it.
I spent the remainder of the semester learning the ins and outs of photo
composition, camera settings, and the variety of gear I could use to improve
my photography.

Over the summer, as junior year approached, I decided to check my class schedule. I noticed that I had been
enrolled in two electives taught by the same teacher—both Broadcast and Yearbook—yet I had not requested
either of these during course selection. I knew one thing: I needed to find a way out of these classes. Why?
Because I did not want to be on camera, behind a camera, writing scripts, or writing articles.
